Prof. Dr. J.A. Jayalal was born to Mr. J. Austin, Executive Officer, Town Panchayat and Mrs. S. Annammal Village Health Nurse as 4th child in a small village called Pacode in the southern tip of our country Kanyakumari District.

He completed his schooling upto 8thstd in Govt. middle school at Pacode and selected under National talent search examination for studying in Carmel Higher Secondary School with stipend from 9th to 12th std. He scored first mark in the District in 10th std. and scored high marks in +2 in 1993 – 84. He then joined inTirunelveli Medical College.

In the first year he secured Gold Medal in physiology and became the College Fine Arts Secretary, RotaractSecretary, Magazine Committee Secretary. He conducted “Ecstasy” a special Intramural fine Arts festival and brought out College magazine after a gap of 9 years. He got medal in OG also.

He did one year senior training in Surgery and Medicine in the same college and got selected through All India Entrance Examination for MS (General Surgery) in Stanly Medical College. He completed the MS in General Surgery in 1993 March 30th and joined Tamilnadu Medical Service on 4th April 1993. He continued his service in PHC, GH and now serving as Professor and HOD Surgery in Kanyakumari Govt. Medical College.

He upskilled his surgical training in the Laparoscopy Surgery in 2000 from Germany and pioneered Laparoscopy Surgery in Kanyakumari District in 2000.

He served in various service organisations like Rotary, Lions, Red Cross, YMCA, Y’s men and involved in community oriented philanthropic service. He is applauded by the District Collector for conducting maximum surgeries for HIV positive patients in this District and have secured best Doctor Medal from Government of Tamilnadu and District of Kanyakumari. He has also received the Best Teacher Award from The TN Dr.MGR Medical University.

He brought a team of plastic surgery experts from Germany to conduct plastic surgery procedures for burns victims free of cost and more than 200 patients benefitted.

His altruistic services to the victims from front line were remarkable.

He joined IMA in 1996 and from the Joint Secretary of Marthandam Branch in 2002, became State Secretary IMA TN state in 2010-2013, State President in 2018, National Vice President 2019 and National President 2021. He had a glorious tenure as National President and served relentlessly in the Covid.

From rural village in the southern tip to Delhi capital, his journey was tumultuous with many challenges, but hard, sincere, dedicated works with the blessing of God Almighty and friends due to him, he could establish his flag fly high with his motto” What I am today is Gift of God and What I become tomorrow is my Gift to God”.
